Manufacturing Technology

Manufacturing Technology (MT)* This program is a one or two-year program at MOCC. The curriculum is designed to provide students with relevant training and skills needed to qualify for a wide range of technical jobs in manufacturing. First year students will learn Mechatronics. Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary engineering field that combines mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, and control systems to create intelligent, responsive, and efficient manufacturing systems. The purpose of the Mechatronics study is to allow students to explore automation technology and the mechatronic systems essential for manufacturing. Students will design and create automated systems. Additionally, first year students will learn the fundamentals of AC and DC circuits, which are the foundation of all manufacturing automation systems. First year students may earn industry-recognized credentials that are awarded by the National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3). Students that have successfully completed the first-year curriculum may apply through an application process to return for a second year for Advanced Learning in the classroom or in a Work Based Learning (WBL) opportunity off campus. Second year advanced skills and NC3 certifications will be in Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), which are widely used devices for automation control and are found in nearly every manufacturing facility around the world. In addition, students will learn how to program Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs) which are used for automation equipment interfaces. Be sure to check out this High Skill and High Demand career field!
